I started in May 2019, so it’s been almost a year. I started as a sales development rep (SDR). As an SDR, my role and my focus was to find the best potential prospects for my representatives. I was looking in the UK market and in South Africa. Basically, my goal was to find not only the right people, but also the right companies and organizations to connect with. I didn’t want to waste my rep’s time with a call that wasn’t worth it, and it was quite a challenge in the beginning because I didn’t have a tech background and I had to learn and study a lot.
Of course you want to speak with the CISO, CTO, and CSO, but sometimes you have the ESOs who are really cool people to speak to as well. You have to balance all this when you’re doing research. In the EMEA market it’s a different approach from what you guys do here in the US. You need to be very

What do you do at Bitsight and when did you start?

My team and I process and record all of the company’s expenses, so all the money that goes out. For me, my role on the team is more on the corporate card side, so anything that is paid on the company credit cards, I record and process in our system. I started mid-April 2019.
What is your background and how did you get into finance?
Prior to this job, I was actually working in retail at CVS, but my degree was in accounting, so that’s how I went from retail to there. I was actually recommended by Chels

I am on the technical research team and I manage the data breach team. We have about five people in Lisbon that record breaches that you see in the news and that we request through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). I approve their work, and I send FOIA requests to various attorney generals’ offices for breach notifications that they get. I do those requests myself, and the team records them into the Bitsight portal.
On July 12th, eighteen Bitsight employees participated in the Boston Children’s Hospital Corporate Cup. This is an annual event where local Boston companies from across all sectors compete against each other for a good cause: raising one million dollars for the children at Boston Children’s Hospital.
On June 9th, a Bitsight team participated in the annual Boston Pride parade for the first time. Boston Pride is a celebration of the city's LGBTQ community and its allies that brings thousands of marchers and spectators into the streets. The parade finishes with a festival at City Hall.
For the second year in a row, Bitsight gave its engineers, product managers, and data and research scientists the day off from normal work to make something cool. The hackathon day had all the typical stuff: awesome custom-designed t-shirts, pizza for lunch, and a demo day the next day. The only “requirement” for teams was that they produce a working prototype to demo. We wanted actual code (not great code, necessarily, but code), not just design mocks.
Over 15 years ago, Shaun McConnon, Bitsight’s former CEO and current Executive Chairman of the Board, became involved with giving back to the local Boston community. Shaun and his wife, Bonnie, sat on the Board for a Sudbury-based charity benefitting children with cancer, which was affiliated with the first Proton Beam at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH).
